We use a software package that collects information about ships. We collect the information in a large quantity and we could do much more in terms of analyses of vessel performance and forecasting on the routes the ships take. I want to implement machine learning and data science into this process.
I followed the training especially for the statistics section. I wanted to learn how you can analyse data and what kind of information you can get out of your analyses. Especially the cases presented during the training were useful. We have learned to apply these skills in practice, what problems you can tackle and how you can solve them with which correct techniques. These are very useful skills to learn. Additionally, you are also encouraged to bring your own data so that you can get started on that immediately.
I found it very instructive during the course to have a number of different course leaders. One was specialized in programming and the other told us more about using data skills in practice. You learn a lot from that. In addition, the course is also a very good basis to continue with. In my spare time, for example, I started using Python in addition to the programming language R.
It is also very nice that the training is spread out over six months. You have a two-day course, then you have time to get started independently and then three weeks later you come together again. This is encouraging for trying out your new skills.
