In January, two Venturn Consultants went to Beira in Mozambique for three weeks to execute a consultancy project regarding the operations of the General Cargo Terminal of Cornelder de Mozambique (CdM). The goal of the report was to analyse their business processes with the intention to advise on a possible implementation of an automated Terminal Operation System (TOS). Based on this, three objectives were defined; to establish the As-Is, Gap Analysis and To-Be situation.
CdM has clear defined process flows, a stable existing IT infrastructure and an energetic management and a project team, with a strong willingness to change and automate certain processes. We analysed the different processes and flows of the terminal operations and the relation with the overall business functioning. Information flows, control levels and stakeholder interaction at the terminal were all assessed. Different methods were used to do this, such as the value chain method and process flow diagramming.
Based on our analysis, short and long term improvements and recommendations were made for the terminal. Following the recommendations, we advised them on the future automation needs of the terminal and the action that need to be taken pre-automation phase. We are committed to assisting in any improvement operations and processes at Cornelder de Mozambique as they continue to grow and optimise their terminals.
