Venturn Young Professionals Programme activity – June 2016
Every month, our Venturn Young Professionals (VYP’s) attend a training, workshop or other activity focused on personal or professional development. This month’s activity was about innovation and inspiration. Therefore, our VYP’s visited PortXL and RDM Rotterdam. Our first stop of the day, PortXL, is an intensive mentorship-driven programme which aims at accelerating ten exclusively selected start-ups. At PortXL, the managing director first explained to us in detail the goals and way of work in PortXL. Next, three start-ups presented us their business in a 3-minute pitch, about which we could ask questions afterwards. All startups have a different story and motivation, but they are all one way or another related to the maritime industry.
After our PortXL visit, we arrived by watertaxi at RDM Rotterdam. RDM Rotterdam is a hotspot for innovation, located at the port of Rotterdam. This former shipyard is now home to many exciting innovation projects, which will contribute to a smarter port. During an interesting guided tour, we got the opportunity to see innovations like 3D-printers and robots at work.
All in all, it was a day full of innovative and inspirational projects which our VYP’s truely enjoyed. We would like to thank the members of PortXL and RDM Rotterdam for taking time to welcome us at their sites.
